A fully vaccinated population should do away with this pandemic, but it remains to be seen what our post pandemic world will look like. One thing is certain, it will not be as it was before. Businesses are likely to have been remodeled to include broader and more innovative use of technologies than we have ever before seen. Vision and mission will be the glue that holds virtual enterprises together, and values that emphasize the common good will be embraced by all, in word or in deed. As a strategic planner all of this should be good for business. The best financial relief would be to do away with student debt and to make education more affordable. Investing more money into businesses that will not be viable in this new world only makes sense if it is to help them transition to something else.

This is a really difficult question to answer. The first thing that comes to my mind is the Mark Twain quote: "Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life." So if you are married to the person you love and you are employed doing what you both love then the need to impose boundaries is not only not easy but is probably not needed--at least as concerns your marriage. The problem comes in an office environment when there are other people involved who might be tempted for their own purposes to drive a wedge in between you. That is why certain businesses prohibit spouses from working together to the point where one of any two employees who decide to marry is forced to leave the company. But I have also witnessed marriages where non-personal professional confidences made to one spouse are respected and not shared with the other spouse without having any harmful impact on their marriage. Transparency, professionalism, a sense of humor, and lots of love will get couples through anything.
I am encouraged by the increased caring and concern Americans seem to have for each other. There is a rebirth of empathy and sense of public citizenship that I have not witnessed in many years. We need to nurture that spirit--with it, there is very little we cannot do.

Of course a stimulus is welcome and needed, but we are so close to a decision on the many grave crises we have as a nation that my personal opinion is that it is better at this minute to vote on which way we want that decision to go. Temporary solutions do no one any good.

Even after a vaccine is found, this pandemic will have a permanent impact on the way for-profit and nonprofit businesses operate. In particular I am emphasizing online delivery of education and services as a way for associations to broaden their markets and retain their members. This requires comparative market research, strategic and tactical planning, and consensus development among stakeholders--all skills where I have proven my effectiveness over three decades and clients that span five continents.
There is always an additional source of funding, until there isn't. And there is always a reason to postpone tough questions , until there isn't. Coming to grips with all the tough questions before you absolutely are forced to, can avoid a lot of heart ache later.

It is and has been a great pleasure every time we can do this--as we have now for over 300 clients over the past 20 years. An important fringe benefit has been the training we have offered to the student interns who have been attracted to work with us in between and during their school terms. I occasionally hear from long ago interns who tell me their internship marked a turning point in their career orientation--very satisfying feedback indeed. Awards are nice, but we haven't really sought them out. It is the human impact of our work that has proven most satisfying.

With all the political hyperbole this past year it was easy to miss the indicators of a faltering economy. After trillion dollar tax cuts for the wealthy, this administration's efforts to create a cheap dollar would normally result in inflation except that consumers do not have money to spend (as most small businesses have seen this past year), so the only impact of these deficit creating policies so far is to increase cash in the hands of the ultra wealthy while driving down the value of the dollar (and dollar-valued commodities such as oil) in global markets. The IMF has indicated the US stock market is over valued since this past Spring, the only question is whether its collapse will happen before the election or after. Amidst all these dark clouds there are bright spots in sectors relating to finance and in military and cyber security.
