It all depends on what you are using it for. A good cell phone camera is an excellent tool that in many ways exceeds the capabilities of entry-level consumer cameras. If your photography needs require a telephoto lens, the ability to control off-camera lighting, or several other things then there is no substitute for a high-quality interchangeable lens camera. There is an old saying in the photography business, "your best camera is the one you have on you." I do not lug 50 pounds of photography equipment everywhere I go, but I never leave home without my cell phone. My cell phone camera cannot replace my professional equipment, but I use it as my everyday travel camera.
