In this area because of the problems with illegal narcotics and prescription drugs, I honestly ask about any past addictions and or habits. I know its unusual to ask this question right up front but, I have found it necessary in this area. Once, I ask the question I inform them of a drug test before hiring. Usually if they have a problem or a addiction they do not come back. Any criminal background? Let them know you will be doing a background check and they need to be up front and that your more then willing to give them a chance but need to know the facts.
Alot, of the questions I ask are to the point mainly because the standardized questionaire does not cover the important questions for this day and age. Develop your own set of questions that you feel are important for your company or organization. Like level of experience and if you have the capability at the time test them or have them give you an example.
Frankly when I hire someone I want to get the right person immediately instead of wasting time with someone that can cause more harm then help and then have to go through the process all over again.
I believe Marketing all 3 is important. The reason being, of course people need to know what you do and what service you provide, but adding a personal touch by marketing yourself as the leader of the company and the people involved helps to build solidity to your company. For Instance word of...

For Instance word of mouth advertising is one of the biggest advertising that helps in any industry, but by knowing who's involved developes a bond and/or trust between you and your client.
