Proud to have designed the fit and finishes as well as staged to perfection the 2010, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 Covenant Lottery Showhomes. These projects were amazing to be a part of. Tight timelines, even tighter budgets. We produced every time, on time and delivered real wow factor for these homes that ultimately benefitted the Misercordia and Grey Nuns hospitals.

Marie is a true, modern Alberta designer with strong classical roots. If your clients aren't happy or haven't had a good experience, its detrimental to the success of your brand. interior design is not for the faint of heart, you must be confident, professional, know your boundaries as well as your clients. I normally screen my clients right from the introduction meeting to be sure they are actually up to the challenge of working together to create something truly special and unique. Team work makes the dream work, but my team changes with every client! Its also critical that my clients respect and trust in my vision and my ability to create while respecting their wishes and wants....its a tough juggling act, but I love it. Through that truly collaborative work together, you create lasting relationships that clients yearn for. Once a project is completed I send a direct link where they can rate my company's performance (1 to 5 stars) and make a notation, share any photographs etc. I use the same format for all my testimonials, and share that same format from Instagram, to Facebook, to my personal website. SEMI-BUST. The Canadian economy isn't doing well, and especially in Alberta we've been hit very hard. That's a very good question, as Edmonton and Calgary are saturated with interior designers, decorators and draftspeople. So keeping yourself current, on the cutting edge is critical to ensure your company stays afloat. Being that this business is more of a "luxury item", what does help for my... (more) That's a very good question, as Edmonton and Calgary are saturated with interior designers, decorators and draftspeople. So keeping yourself current, on the cutting edge is critical to ensure your company stays afloat. Being that this business is more of a "luxury item", what does help for my firm is consistency, quality and brand recognition.  One of the biggest complaints I get from clients who have hired another designer prior to coming to my firm, is communication - they don't convey design intent clearly enough and they don't listen to their clients thoroughly enough.  Another complaint I get is that they aren't professional. My confidence in my ability to deliver, communicate and present design intent are exemplary. These skills set my design firm apart from the massive amounts of new up and coming interior designers saturating the market.  You will get your money's worth, and your home or office will be designed right the first time. The online SEO's, FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter, Blogs are all great, they do suck up a lot of time though - and each company really should hire a marketing person to handle just the online presence of a company.  I know I would be if I were a larger firm. I'm a small boutique firm that spends my time nurturing my clients, our relationship and delivering on the quality service and attention to detail that they deserve. I plan on increasing my online presence in the New Year - with incremental goals that are achievable. I feel that this area is the only area that I am currently needing attention.

Well, this is tricky and its going to take some work on your part to get it right.   You need to set yourself and your business apart from the crowd. (more) Well, this is tricky and its going to take some work on your part to get it right.   You need to set yourself and your business apart from the crowd. If your presence online isn't generating revenue, then its time to take a look at your brand, establish your foundation pieces, and then refresh it to make sense to your target market, and make sense to what you doing and where your company is going. Creating a "vibe" or a "sensation" that your business is the business to go to... even creating a blog where you show case your employees, or even have one (owner) or employee whose great on camera, speaks well, and can show folks what you do in a candid honest way is what hits home with people today.  There's a sweet little local gardening store that comes to mind as a good example. The parents own the store, but the one child and her husband started just video taping an average day, and what they were doing/achieving. They now have over 2 million followers on youtube and facebook. Sweet couple that bought a beautiful fixer-upper home. Landscaping, gardening and DIY decorating projects are why they are a hit. There are all types of gimmicks out there to clean your water, filters, bottled water, expensive in home systems, cost-effective manual filter systems, who is actually responsible for ensuring the safety and continuity of clean, safe, healthy drinking water? It changes per city, per province, per state, per country doesn't it? So, how do we ensure safe, healthy drinking water world-wide?

Flipping Houses can be quite lucrative, my biggest complaint is the Real Estate Agents get the best deals for themselves, as they've tapped into the market. 1). (more) Flipping Houses can be quite lucrative, my biggest complaint is the Real Estate Agents get the best deals for themselves, as they've tapped into the market. 1). Find a real estate agent you can trust and partner with is paramount.  I've flipped houses, my biggest hurdle? Finding a real estate agent that didn't gouge and take all my investment revenue.   As an interior designer, my second biggest complaint is flippers who put "lipstick on the pig". Young home buyers are gullible, they want the "pretty", but majority can't tell if a renovation has been done properly. The horror stories I could tell would fill a novel. 2) best advice, hire an amazing interior designer that can choose the finishes wisely, and ensure everything is built and installed to code. Build a reputation for yourself as a quality flipper - there is always value in that! Good Luck.

I have my portfolio on a number of sites. The only one I pay for is Houzz, and even that one is becoming less and less valuable. Houzz is a mere reflection of what it used to be, its becoming more of a shopping channel. I wish these companies would actually guarantee results but they won't. Its a... Houzz is a mere reflection of what it used to be, its becoming more of a shopping channel. I wish these companies would actually guarantee results but they won't. Its a roll of the dice, and for me, I'd much rather nurture my existing clients, do quality work, get word of mouth referrals than depend upon another website or online resource to do my marketing/sales for me. In my particular line of business, its extremely personal who you hire as an interior designer.  Even the best of friends don't want to share the same designer, (its a girl thing). Find a site that helps you build your business, not just list your company. And get really good with your corporate SEO's and on Twitter, Facebook, Google, Instagram. Good Luck!
