I price my classes fairly and deliver quality instruction in every class. My students get what they pay for in every class. If you feel your prices are stopping people from joining maybe you should take a look at your pricing. My pricing is set based on what I am offering the student, not based on what other schools offer. I don’t care what others charge. If a potential student tells me that they can’t afford my school I tell them they may be looking for a club and not a school. I will make suggestions about where they can look for a club. Most of the time the price question goes away at that time.
In the last 45 years of teaching martial arts I have tried almost every promotion you can imagine. I have found that when you give it away, it will be perceived as having little value. After the promotion is over and you go up on the prices there can be hard feelings. It is better to charge a fair price and offer added value in other ways. I do not run a daycare, after school program, sports or activity. I run a martial arts school, in that school we teach life skills using martial arts.
This does not mean you should not do things for your community. I have a very good name in my community for the things I have done. You should try anything you think will help. That is what they call experience. If you have daycare, after school programs, sports or activities, good for you. You are offering programs that people are looking for. I send people to places that offer those things all the time. The big mistake I see a lot of schools making is trying to be all things to all people. If this is not helpful to you just ignore what I have written and join a management group. They will have no shortage of marketing ideas and promotions you can run. I have been there, done that, maybe you will like it more than I did, a lot of people do.

If you think about it you can think of some value added thing you can do to make them see what a great deal they are getting. Make sure that it is something you can afford to do every time they come back. I make sure their first experience with my company is a great one.

In order to be good at martial arts you must develop a mindset that will move you toward your goal. With help from a great instructor, you can change the way you think. Changing the way you think or developing a new mindset, is changing the inside, once done the outside will change as well. If you struggle with weight loss you may need help from someone like Julie Nise. She has developed an incredible weight loss program that works with this simple statement, "Change the inside, change the outside". This method will work whether you want to be a black belt, stop smoking, or lose weight.

If what they want is not in line with what you offer tell them that as well. Do not try to be everything to everyone. I have sent people to other schools that better fit their needs and had those same people recommend my school to friends that were looking for what I am offering. Honesty is the best policy. If you find that you are not offering what most people are asking for it is time to make a change. Sometimes it is hard for instructors to admit that their program is not perfect for everyone. In my school I have different instructors that offer programs that I do not teach. If you are asking about marketing your school that is another question.
