Absolutely, we call it associate partnering or networking.  Instead of similar or parallel business competing, it is much more advantageous to meld with, work together with others to maximize the best of each other for the benefit of your customers or clients.  In appraising, it means calling in specialty consultant valuation experts or trades people.  As an antique dealer in the past, I worked to encourage joint advertising and referrals to pool limited resources to maximum benefit to all.  Positive action and interaction v negative actions or backbiting to limit others prosperity....I chose positive every time!   It saves money, but most importantly you build great relationships.
