Better than that; why don't all the politicians STOP getting paid until they can solve this dilemma?? No congressional pay for the foreseeable future until the economy is straightened out. Watch them all come together and figure out a plan. As it is, they get paid and pretty much do nothing. It's a farce.

Do what my daughter did: dig and find all the grants and scholarships that are available to all students. The trick is; you have to dig. Most people are unaware of all the money that is available. As well, seriously consider Junior College for the first two years. They are very inexpensive, the education is generally excellent and the credits are almost always transferrable.  I would urge students to also consider CLEP testing. CLEP is College Level Examination Placement. They organization is out of Princeton, NJ if memory serves. I myself CLEP'd out of 16 college credits, most of it US History. Basically, if a student feels he or she knows quite a bit about a subject, they can go, pay a small fee and take what amounts to a Final Exam when a CLEP is being offered. Pass the CLEP and grab 3-6 fully legit college credits in one sitting. And they have language CLEPs too. Finally, if a student opts to work at a college or university, there is a substantial discount on tuition and they get paid to boot. Think about it.

As a Chiropractor, I naturally gravitate towards Chiropractic care for most of my needs and those of people I know. However, I have treated with an Acupuncturist and loved it. As well, I am actually treating with an ND (Naturopath Doctor) for dietary and inflammatory issues I have. I referred several people to the ND in the past year. Bear in mind that spinal manipulation has been around since ancient Egypt. Hieroglyphs going back to 2500 BC show people walking on the spines of others for spinal adjustments. Hippocrates himself wrote a book called "On Joints" singing the praises of spinal manipulation. So manipulation of the spine is nothing new. The practice gained expression in 1895 when a bone-setter named D.D. Palmer started manipulating the spine and came up with the phrase "Chiropractic" which joins two Greek words together: hand - practice, to name this thing he "discovered." Along with NDs, Acupuncturists, nutritionists and others; all have benefited from research, discovery and refinement to be strictly mainstream these days. Thanks goodness.   Dr. H

On the  upside, people seem to be turning away from medicine and surgery and are embracing holistic care more and more. Holistic care would include Chiropractic, nutrition, acupuncture, Naturopath, etc. Thanks for the inquiry.

Additionally, I have a number of posters scattered around the office that usually illustrate what I am trying to say and that often helps. Finally, if the patient has a real issue with chiropractic and where it came from, the science behind it, the schooling it takes, safety, etc., I show the patient a Power Point show I personally designed.  I will sit down with the patient and run through the whole thing. With these three approaches, there has never been a question that I have not been able to answer.  Dr. Haberstroh

It is the greatest secret in higher education. Most Community College credits transfer to almost any 4 year university or college. They are very economical and you get a fantastic education there. I did it and it was the best two years of my educational life. My daughter took my good advice and did it too. She just graduated from New England School of Law - cum laude. As well, you pick up an Associate Degree. In this day and age, the more degrees the better. 2nd: CLEP. College Level Examination Placement. This service is unique. It is basically a final exam in a subject. If you think you know a lot about a subject and don't want to pay for the tuition for that subject and the time it takes to take the class, CLEP out of it. The credits are transferable anywhere and it's short money for a 2-3 hour test on a Saturday morning. I CLEPed 16 College credits: 9 in US History and the rest in various English classes. They offer language CLEPs too. If you are fluent in say, Spanish, why take the class? Just CLEP out of it.  3rd: Work at the college or Univ.   All colleges and universities offer HUGE discounts on tuition if the student works a job on campus. To boot, they will pay you for the work. Sure, it will be a grind but the savings are enormous and so worth it.  4th: Grants/scholarships. There are tons of these available and most people have no idea. You have to dig. You have to look them up and see what's available but there are dozens available that most parents never heard of. So start digging and find that money. Unlike loans, you DON'T HAVE TO PAY THEM BACK. My daughter did that for both community college and her 3rd and 4th year at UCLA, not a cheap school by any stretch. She found grants and scholarships. High grades help too so tell the kid to buckle down and do well in high school and also Community College. As the final kicker for my daughter, she wound up getting a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to Law School. No, really. All that due to her previously good grades and her entrance essay on why she wanted to be a lawyer.  Where there is a will, there is a way. Trust me on this.  Dr. Haberstroh

We know that the following things destroy our telemeres and that in turn makes us age faster and get sicker faster. These things are: alcohol, soda, smoking, too much sun, greasy foods, fatty foods, too much stress and too much sugar - to name a few. You dial down these poisons, you will live longer, look better (not like a shriveled up baseball glove) and crucially, be able to function well. New geriatric records will abound in every conceivable category.
