I have multiple unfinished projects, the longest is 20 years so far. I have a story due to be published later this month in The Prompt that was generated from a concept in college: The House of Crimson Tears. 14 years until I could find the best introduction to the rest of the world.

If it's a service, you ARE marketing yourself. To that end, you are sharing what you have to offer to those around you: whether it is a car wash, tax returns services, or even writing. Although the end product is important, if you take yourself out of the equation then usually you are looking at a loss of authenticity. To that end, your product or service needs to be able to speak for itself as you market. What about the product makes it worth buying? What are the benefits that it offers to the person, and can they get it somewhere else in the same way? What makes yours different, unique, or "better". Entrepreneurs are in a difficult spot when it comes to marketing a product - a smooth product launch usually means that the product is good to go, hitting the ground running. But inventors and entrepreneurs have to sell themselves as a piece of the item. So much of their time and effort went into it! How much do they believe in their product? How contagious is their energy?
At the end of the day - the first impression, and final product, are really the crux of what matters. So if the first impression is "Hey, this is an entrepreneur and he makes ______." then that can work almost as well (and better, for some folks) as "____ is a really cool product!". To that end, they can't be unlinked for certain entrepreneurs, either.
