How We Got Started
In 2015, after years of working in communications and advertising for large corporations, Lucas Pate decided to take the leap and start his own marketing agency. Lucas started his first agency with the goal of giving businesses of all sizes a one-stop shop for all their marketing needs. As he worked with more small businesses and local clients, he realized that a major component of their online presence was usually missing or lacking—their website. To solve this problem, he decided to add web design to his list of services. This is why he started Element 99 Web Services, a web design company with a wide range of services to help businesses set up and improve their online presence.

While I’m not usually in favor of blanket banning, this case is different. I think the Federal government has a responsibility to protect its citizens from corrupt and hostile foreign actors. Data mining (and potentially spying) is a MAJOR issue, and while some will say this is an infringement of free speech, I don’t see the connection. The government isn’t stepping in to censor speech, they are banning a company that is owned by a foreign adversary from operating in the United States. If people want a similar app to the TikTok app, then they can build it (or use any similar existing social media platform).
In an ideal world the Chinese government would completely divest themselves from the app and a US company should step in to make public all of the tracking and data that was being captured by the app, and then immediately disable all tracking and data collection.

This is the third article on Alignable that I've read (from the same author) that continues to perpetuate the "failed bank fear" by using language like "several high-profile bank failures." I haven't spoken to a single local business owner who is having any difficulty accessing financing because of other bank failures. It really seems like repeating and repeating this line in all of these "insights" is making a mountain out of a molehill. I say this because there have been a whopping two bank failures. Correct me if I'm wrong, but "several" is a term used to describe "more than two but fewer than many." It is also what we call a "loaded word" when you are trying to persuade people that a situation is worse than it actually is. I can't see any direct correlation between two banks failing and access to business credit, which would be an important direct correlation to confirm in an informative poll. It might be different if there were a domino effect of bank closures due to those two bank failures, but we haven't seen that even in the slightest. Perhaps part of this is due to the large number of relatively new small businesses (likely a higher risk class), and probably also in large part to higher interest rates.

The overt sensationalization of these topics creates more of a problem than the issues themselves. The echo chamber of social media and news media makes it sound like the sky is falling, when in fact it is not.
