What I thought I saw in your letter was that you are trying to do consulting rather than sales, but are doing sales work as a way to pay the bills until you can get your consulting to take off.

What I thought I saw in your letter was that you are trying to do consulting rather than sales, but are doing sales work as a way to pay the bills until you can get your consulting to take off.
If that is the case, consulting may not be an easier option because you have to create sales for your consulting business, and it can be even more of a challenge to sell yourself.
That said, if you believe you can change people's lives or the world for the better through your consulting work, you have other options beyond cold-calling to sell your services.
Who can you partner with? Perhaps you could team with someone who loves business development. What other services do your ideal clients use? For example, if you want to do bookkeeping, you could find CPAs or marketing firms to partner with for referrals. You could find groups where your ideal clients hang out, and go there (conferences, meet-ups). Another option is to do volunteer work in exchange for great recommendations.
All that said, there is nothing wrong with looking for a company where you can make your contributions without having to generate your own work.
