How We Got Started

I started my career in 1990 as an insurance agent working for an insurance company. By 1994 I had worked my way up to a management role responsible for a staff of 6 agents and thousands of clients.

Following some success in management, I noticed that my clients were in need of additional services that were not offered by my employer. So, in 1999 I made the leap to an Independent Broker where I was able to expand the value of the Client/Advisor relationship by providing the additional products and services my clients were in need of instead of just what my employer wanted me to sell.

I continued as an independent broker until 2006 when I joined a small and growing planning firm. I was responsible for their new Naples, Florida office. I was instrumental in opening offices in Sarasota, Tampa and Northbrook, Illinois.

Shortly after my boys were born I began thinking about being able to pass my business on to my sons some day. In 2010 the Adagio Companies were formed.

However, with digital technology, the ability to go from meeting to meeting in moments has been a real plus. I am far more productive by eliminating travel time. With regard to my weekly BNI meetings, most of our members don't like the weekly Zoom meetings. We overwhelmingly prefer meeting in person. But here again, we learned a new way to conduct business and it has allowed us to continue to refer business to each other and invite visitors. We have even added new members to our chapter.

If they have successfully applied, some are finding that the funds may not arrive in time.  Through the use of a number of specialized tax incentives (often not uncovered by your tax preparer) we are often able to bridge the gap between where you are today and the stimulus funds or SBA loans arriving. These specialized tax incentives can result in an immediate cash in-flow to your business. We work on a contingency basis. Meaning, we do all the work up-front. If there is no economic benefit to you, you pay us nothing. We work with your CPA to help your business. It costs nothing to find out if these tax incentives can help.  239-872-8593

I know some people keep calling until they are told not to call any longer and some take a different approach. If you are new to your respective business and have few people to contact, there is a value to working every lead as long as you can. However there is also a diminishing return on the investment of your time. I have found that making 3-4 attempts to contact a lead is all that is necessary. I do leave messages and I will email them if I have the address. After 3-4 voice mails and still no reply, they don't really want to talk to you. Move on to more productive activities.

(more) "Small projects" can be a big deal to the client. In the past 30 years I have had many clients pass away. Sometimes suddenly, other times expectedly. Either way, the loss of a loved one is traumatic, emotional, scary, all these emotions and more.  One of the daunting chores that has to be done by the family left behind is the filing of death claims with insurance companies, retirement accounts, etc. Besides the emotional stress involved, the task is often made more complex by the "claims package" sent by the institution. These "claims packages" can be 10-15 pages of tax information, disclaimers, investment options, all of which, the family doesn't care to be dealing with. Many times they become confused and put off filing the simple 1 page claim form if fear of making a mistake or worse, checking a wrong box, leading to an unexpected tax liability or an irreversible payout option.  Having handled dozens of death claims for my clients, what would take them hours and in some cases, months to understand and complete, I am able to complete in about 5 minutes by visiting with them, asking the pertinent questions and filing the claim form for them. I do this for any account they may have. It doesn't matter if they purchased the product in question from me or someone else. It takes me very little time, it is the right thing to do, in my opinion, and the impact it has on our relationship going forward is immeasurable.  You may not be an insurance agent, investment advisor or a stock broker but there is some "small project" or task that you can do for your clients that has a similar impact and shows that you care for your client.

(more) My most consistent source of referrals the past 5+ years have come from my referral partners in my BNI group. I have not seen a group of professionals more concerned about helping each other grow their respective businesses like my particular chapter. I have experienced revenue from these referrals north of 6 figures. What we don't have and are seeking is a reliable CPA, General Contractor and an Electrician. Only one person from each profession is permitted, which is great if you are that person. Other industries are unrepresented too. If you are interested in learning more about referral marketing, let me know. I would be happy to talk with you.
