Always take an initial down (if not full payment upfront) so they've got some skin in the game. If it's a lengthy project, regular payments at milestones. In my business, the cheaper the customer, the more expensive(in money and time) for me. The ones that want it free, are normally the bad debt / quickly out of business types, walk away from that business leaving the space for higher quality customers.  Observe the channel those customers are coming from, your marketing approach very well could be attracting those if they seem prevalent. Finally if they decide they favor not getting the product to avoid paying the rest of the bill, then off to collections and onto the next. Don't waste your time and energy on that, farm it out and expect Las Vegas results (you're lucky if you get anything).  I'm of the firm belief that God designed you with some specific strengths, based on this question, collections isn't one of them, your core business is - grow that and prosper! Good luck and B Blessed!

When I hire computer folks I go to FieldNation or OnForce if I need help in a city that I can't directly service. I know Walmart and a lot of big guys do/did that as well instead of keep folks on staff. Try getting a profile setup on those and bid on the jobs as they pop up. Same here, it's all online. On the flip side I did hire a Yellow Pages sales person, I figured if they could sell that, they've got some serious objection handling skills.
