Yes!  and I want you to be able start applying once you read this...

>>  build media relationships

Did you know that there is nothing you can do in your business that will give you these three powerful initiatives at the same time:

- Increase awareness

- Gain credibility

- Reach and Attract your ideal audience

LIKE BEING FEATURED ON:  Radio, TV, Magazines, newspapers, podcasts and blogs

So here is what you do...

a) Identify the media most relevant.  What does your ideal client watch, read or listen to?

b) Create a list and find their contact info.  Every media portal has contact us.

c) Come up with a story.  Media does not care about what you sell or market.  They care about a story.  What are the facts?  Why is it relevant?  Who would benefit?

d) Reach out to the media and pitch the story idea.

e) Be ready to provide answers to their questions.

f) Rinse repeat.

My clients all know that I you only need 15 min a day to start building the relationships.

Remember this philosophy when you are working with media... serve first.

Make sure you give them what they want... then you will get what you want.

As far as promoting yourself on-line:

  • claim your "Google business" places and fill out all your information (you will start getting solicitations however)
  • go to relevant aggregate sites and add your business, these are "Digital yellow page sites".  For example, "Yelp, YP.com, Dexknows.com, Homeadvisor, etc.
  • make sure you have good CRM (client retention management) tools available for text/email marketing
  • Set-up a free website on Foursquare, Wix or similar
  • If you need additional advise , etc.  feel free to email or call to chat.  My company does offer a software solution that includes all the above, saves immense amount of time on your part to do other things like- networking.

Google mybusiness.  Just be patient setting it up.  Facebook page.

Anything per social media and just good old referral from clients.

Not really. You can connect on Facebook and other sites, but the cost is in your time. You can also go to local area networking groups. Usually the first couple times you go it is free, but at a certain point you are expected to join and there is a cost associated with doing so. It's a way to network when you don't have a strong network already in place. A lot of these groups limit members by their services. For instance, if they already have a dentist, another dentist won't be allowed to join (which is why you go to a few of them free).

Some ways to advertise are just less costly than others. For instance, you can get inexpensive business cards from Vista Print. You can also get magnetic car door advertisements at a pretty low cost (double check with your insurance agent to see if that has the potential for a future liability issue).

People love magnets. You can make your own by going to Hobby Lobby and buying business sized magnets and gluing your business card to them. Some magnets come with adhesive already and that makes it even easier.

Word of mouth can be important. Enlist the help of friends and relatives you trust. Give them some business cards or magnets to share with their friends.

Remember everything costs - time or money or both.  You have to decide what you are willing to invest.

The very best way to market yourself for "free" is via content marketing. I say free in quotes because it will require elbow grease. If you want to pick up traction and get lots of incoming leads without having to pay for ads, or do pay per click, content marketing is a great way to go.

You first start by figuring out who your ideal clients are (Persona Building). Then you try and figure out what are likely long tail keywords they would be typing into google to answer questions they might have about what you do. Long tail basically means not a keyword, but a sentence. For instance, "How do I regulate the amount of chlorine in my swimming pool?".

You will create a list of these long tail keyword searches and start creating blog content. The trick is going to be to naturally work the long tail keyword into the text of your articles. As you create more and more of these, you'll turn up in more and more search results, getting more website traffic and therefore getting more people filling out your capture forms for more information.

    Hope that helps!

Absolutely. Put on your shoes and begin visiting your neighbors. Then visit their neighbors, etc, etc. I think you have it.
