Not a great idea although there are circumstances where it can be useful.  When I am talking to people, the last thing I want to hear is a sales pitch.  I prefer to have a two way interaction.

If planning a pitch, as minimum, make sure you know what the other person's needs are and focus on how what you are pitching can address those needs.

I believe the more direct, concise and filtered a message is delivered to a prospective lead, client or referral source the better the message will be understood and remembered. Complicated drawn out talks that loose individuals in the soup so to speak loose the individuals or business. In our fast paste world of cell phones, computers and 5G isn't the quicker the better, let's get the job done now the bottom line.

With today's tiny attention span and twitter-esque use of language - yes. If you can keep the "this is what I do, who I help and how I can help you" short and sweet, more people will pay attention. nothing worse than someone blathering on and on at a networking event.

I think that if your 'elevator pitch' is authentic and not packaged, then yes, it is very effective and can provoke an emotional response very quickly.  If you're a phony than it is a turn off for sure.

Be concise, informative, unique, caring and to the point.

Absolutely,  elevator pitches are very instrumental in today's world.A well prepared pitch needs to be brief and well outlined defining your product, service and the value. Remember, you only have 20 seconds to gain their attention.

With the attention span shrinking every day elevator pitches are still one of the best ways to grab someone's attention.
