No question about doing business with active, current knowledge of the Market are critical to my way of thinking. My wife and I have bought and sold 19 homes in our Married life, and, with 8 kids and 14 Grandkids, 6 who are now buying, our advice has been consistent. Find the neighborhood you want to live, Interview some Realtors who work that arena make sure that you are comfortable with that person and start the buying process by explaining your wants and needs and your budget.
There is a balance: you can have a Realtor or Mortgage Broker who has been in the industry many years, and for whatever reason (too busy, burnt out), although they have wisdom, they lack the motivation or energy to get the job done with excellence. If a newer person has great connections to information, and has the passion to wow their clients, sometimes that can be just as good, or better. I do find that reminding my brokers & clients that I have over 24 years in the industry helps; ultimately though, it is HOW well I get the job done in the end that matters most.
Education and experience are amazing if you are doing the job well; so it's more about knowledge and doing something right! if you have a 20 history of getting things done then great; if you have 20 history of getting by and maybe getting it right then I do not want that. I want truth and honesty that someone is competent of there job no matter how long they have been doing the job.
Hi Dave...first let me say great first name for obvious reasons and second for even obviouser reasons. We spent 2 weeks in Bend this year...great place.
to answer your question...I usually tell people how long I have been in the industry, why I chose it (better not say for the money) and what type of mortgage I have personally. I have found having a story the greatest success. Shows people you are real.
I believe both are or should be taken into consideration. Having said this I express to my new people to impress upon people they are not in this alone. Tell people you have the support of very experienced professionals.

If i have to ask I already know the answer. Experience, brainpower and hustle come out in most conversations

never asked about-however i only refer my clients to agents I know and have confidence in their abilities.
If not it should be!
Obviously a buyer or seller must feel comfortable with their realtor, but past history, knowledge, experience, and ethics all need to be considered.
I always try to market myself based on these basic core characteristics and your past should success should separate from the competition.
