Have you thought about using GoFundMe or other crowdfunding sites to fund your business?

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal about a beloved local bookstore crowd-funding their move (from donations by local, loyal customers)  caught my eye. Searching for "bookstore" on GoFundMe, Indiegogo and Kickstarter, I found thousands of bookstores going this route. 

Have you thought about using one of these sites and appealing to loyal local consumers to help with expanding, moving or otherwise funding your business? If so, did it work out well? Any downsides or upsides (beyond the financing)?
