Electricians, How Do You Find Your New Employees?

Where do you suggest finding skilled labor employees? I am in need of an electrician or electrician helper.

It depends on what you are looking for. Are you looking for a career electrician to be a part of your company growth or someone to help you get through the summer. I disagree with Mr. Lassesen, I have seen just as many "older" people feel entitled and have no work ethic than I have seen from young people. Unless you offer a decent wage and a career, you will always be cycling through employees. Have you considered the apprenticeship program? Either ABC or IBEW offer apprenticeships. I would suggest joining the IBEW as they will have skilled Master, Journeyman or apprentice electricians that are a call away and you don't have to deal with onboarding or training.

Now to actually answer your question, as a union contractor, we utilize the apprenticeship program and IBEW for our staffing. Not really a "new" employee, but a skilled one familiar with what is expected of them.

ok so here, you need to evaluate your needs carefully. Im a master electrician as well as a contractor. Typically I use a few methods. Your job lead or well experienced journeyman (5+) years experience in at least commercial and residential projects. You can save your self some money this way. I find people with and without experience through our local county run trade schools. Our county schools allow for ojt for second year apprentices. You can also check with your state fire Marshall office for a list of recent graduates. Some of these people are well experienced some have no experience. If you offer your journeyman (lead) a healthy salary you will find your jobs to be more productive. I hope this helps you gain some perspective on your search

WE Look for people that we have worked with in the past that we know are goo workers and when we invite someone in we treat them with respect and like family. We have found that this word gets around it it attract the kind of people that want a cohesive working environment. We also give them a trial period to make sure they will fit. We have a network with other electrical companies and we help each other out so if one has an employee that is not needed at the moment and another requires help then we lend to each other. This can work to everyones benefit in the long run.

We hire only Union electricians. Currently we employ 65 Journeymen for power work, 10 Apprentice, 1 CE who is awaiting a apprenticeship, 22 Telecommunication workers splicing fiber.

While we have had a few questionable hires over the past 50 years, the field groups weed those people out quickly, for the most part everyone works hard and gives you 8 for 8.

If you need skilled workers call the IBEW union hall! You will be very happy with the results.

No one resource. I have hired 5 this year from different sources. 1 from zip recruiter, 1 walk in from help wanted sign outside of office, 1 rehire that worked for us 2 years ago and 2 apprentices we are sponsoring from local technical college.

We have used newspaper adds, Career job fairs, word of mouth through our business partners as well as contacts with local Vocational-technical schools.

Craig's list and magnets on the truck. Maybe a technical institute

Word of mouth and Craigs list, but it's hard.

Please contact me at xxx-xxx-xxxx. We can find you a qualified electrician.

If you sign up as a union employer, you have access to a pool of well-trained electricians who make a good wage and benefit package (i.e. they are in it for the long term). You can call as many as needed when you get work and when the job is over you can send them back--no harm, no foul. We also have various skill/wage levels depending on what you need, from a new apprentice to a fully rounded Journeyman.
