How Do You Like To Give Back To The Community?

Being I do printing and promotional items, I have donated advertising aids to charities. I also volunteer time by aiding in their PR.

I create glass items with the pink ribbon on them. I am a colon cancer survivor and while not everyone recognizes my blue ribbon, everyone recognizes a pink ribbon. When a sale is made with a pink ribbon on it, half the purchase price is donated to the American Cancer Society. This is my way of giving back,

I have been accused of being a volunteer addict...and I do love to give back, I sit on the Board of Directors of 2 non-profits as a volunteer Director, I do publicity work on a volunteer basis for the Naples Marine Corps League because they help veterans in need who are transitioning from military to civilian life, and they run a training program for young kids who want to join the Marines some day, and I visit a female WWII veteran who is 95 years old in a nursing home once a week for an hour as a volunteer with the Veterans Visiting Veterans program. I also buy around $300 worth of food once a quarter and deliver it to the St. Vincent De Paul food pantry, and I buy supplies and help pack boxes once a quarter (care Packages) to send to the military troops serving in the Middle-East and Africa and give money for the postage to the Faith Lutheran Church who mails the boxes. I have been blessed in my life and giving back is a way of expressing my gratitude for that.

I have spent nearly my entire life teaching others how to be safe with firearms, archery and while hunting. For over 51 years I have been a hunter and shooter. For over 41 of those years, I have taught others about firearms training, concealed carry, archery and in hunter safety. Currently I give back my talents as a volunteer to our North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, International Hunter Education Association and to the Department of Environmental Conservation as a Hunter Education Instructor and Mentor.

I give back by being on our counties emergency management team by being a certified tornado chaser and doing traffic control for all the cities events and donate time for other city functions as well as being prepared for any natural disaster and setting up a command center and shelters for the citizens.

I am a Rotarian and our club has taken on 3 elementary schools that were in jeopardy of failing the school district's criteria. We have a program that encourages Fitness, Literacy, Attendance and Grades (FLAG). We award 2 bicycles (1 boy & 1 girl) that passes the criteria per each grade .

In addition to the FLAG program we participate in the Snack Pack for Kids program and other community based organizations.

Here at Aftershock, we have to plan in advance, as there are so many worthy causes locally. We make donations to charities, support youth teams, and also provide our expertise (we're a boutique Graphic Design and Advertising Agency) as work-in-kind to various charities. It can be pro-bono work, or reduced rates. But we firmly believe that providing $1000 - $2000 worth of work can be much more valuable to a community group than if we simply cut them a cheque. The work we do for them can be leveraged to raise their profile locally and acquire additional visibility, donations and other funding. But we have to be very pragmatic in choosing how much, and with whom, to partner with in this way.

WOW!! I am so encouraged by the amazing business that give back. Without the support of the our local area DURHAM REGION we could not do what we do. We are a non profit shelter in the Durham Region helping young pregnant women and their babies have a safe place to live. They reside with us at WINGS MATERNITY HOME for a period of a year. We offer them support; classes; clothing; and most importantly schooling while they are here. They have the opportunity to complete their High School with our 3 volunteer High School Teachers who come on site to run our school program. Thank you to the community who step up and help some grass roots organizations like mine. YOU IMPACT LIFE...

I volunteer in a charity organization called AMBUCS, which stands for American Business Clubs. Our mission is to raise money to do 3 things:

1. Provide specially equipped tri-cycles for physically challenged kids & adults

2. Build ramps at homes of physically challenged people

3. Provide college scholarships for young people studying physical therapy

All of these services are free to the families.

I am teaching a 6 week course SEED TO SUPPER for anyone who wants to learn how to grow their own food! Sponsored by the Oregon Food Bank and OSU Extension Master Gardener Program (I was certified in 2014). It's terrifically fun, educational, and gives meaning to my life as I am an avid gardener, too.
