My team consists of me and my husband. Sometimes my adult children help.

Our time clock is next to my office door and I try keep it open during peak clock in and out times so I can talk to them and they can see that I really have an open door policy :) It helps open the lines of communication since I am right there. Always thanking them after a day's work goes a long way too. I agree with some of the others that it should feel like family but you do have to be careful about the boundaries. Empower them to make decisions on their own so they know you trust them.

Daily meetings. Share testimonial letters fro guest. Raffle drawing with prizes.

We started a committee to plan monthly events for the staff like luncheons and barbecues.

My husband is my team. I just threaten to not feed him,

I completely agree with Marie from Anchor Inn.  Treating people like family is important.  However, there is a fine line here.  You have to be careful not to get too comfortable or close or you lose respect.  Incentives are very motivating.  We do quarterly contests based on performance and give away a trip to a Bed and Breakfast with gift card and dinner.  All the best.

In order to maintain Motivation we try to make sure that are employees feel more like family / co-workers rather then boss employee.  We encourage them to have input on how to improve the business.  This help them feel valued. We offer incentives for advancement and goal for rewards.

By talking to them each morning or shift and discussing our game plan and get their input. Also work on different incentive programs for the staff and bonuses if goals are achieved. Sometimes just taking the time to joke with them and make them feel appreciated.
