Social media. Instagram is all about photos, for example. I know someone who is a huge influencer and helps people grow their business on Instagram. I can share his info if you're interested. You also have to niche down and define your avatar to the smallest detail. Create an avatar. Give it a name and personal characteristics. Knowing exactly who you're talking to is key. Attraction marketing will put you in front of your people. It won't happen overnight, but this is the way to go in my experience.
Hi Bruce, offering my cents as someone who has been in traditional marketing for 30+ years and digital for 10+ years....you have one great advantage, you know your target and it is pretty specific. I would take that targeting and go with digital marketing primarily. You can easily target your age, HHI, traveling propensity, etc. I assume since you haven't gone down this path, you have no experience in digital. Your investment would be better spent with an agency or experienced freelancer that comes with reliable references. Your budget would likely dictate which would be a better option.
You can reach the person who would most likely need or want your service through Hype Local Digital Marketing through Facebook marketing. Using targeting marketing is the best way to reach your potential customer with a cost effective marketing program. Welcome Wagon is now offering a program that can help with your local market with Hyper Local Digital. Look them up at Hylodigi.com
Bruce, you need someone experienced in marketing. You need a true marketer, not someone who just knows social media, or a programmer or someone who thinks they know marketing. First, ask them how they define marketing. You'll get a wide range of answers. Ask them if they think marketing includes price, what about the product or service itself? Then ask them how are they related to marketing. Then ask them what their process is to determine a strategy and then determine the tacts. Facebook is a tactic, not a strategy. So, you might want them to define the difference between a strategy and a tactic. You do need research, a more defined target audience, and a life of the lead process, as well as life-time value and a strategy to reach your optimal life-time value. And then sometime in your conversation, you need to have what we call "the ballpark" conversation. That is what is your budget. The budget will help determine your best approach. Some marketers will just help you get the lead to your door. True marketers will help you convert, retain and leverage your customers so that you can truly grow your business. Your choice :) We may be a good fit for you so please reach out. If I didn't do this, I would love to do what you do! Photography and travel and two things I'm very passionate about!
You will want to target the high-end wealthy customer that loves to travel. Try Fb and Google ads. Do you have an Fb business page? If not, they're very easy and free to create. Make posts on it about your business with pictures and videos of your work. You can write ads that target demographics such as age, educational level, marital status, income, male or female or both, and others. Make frequent posts about twice per week to get people used to seeing your service and brand and getting friends and likes to your Fb business page.
I sell advertising in senior center newsletters. In Mass, towns and cities have senior centers that offer educational programs, exercise classes, blood pressure clinics, movies, parties, card games, book clubs and art classes. My people are active, driving and living independently. The centers are always looking for interesting things for people to do so there is an opportunity to give educational programs. In your case- I'd suggest affluent communities. You do need to do an ad--but that acts like a business card that is visible all year.
Hi Bruce,
My wife and I are the founders of the viewfindercenter.com. We sold the business in 2012, but we learned a lot about running this type of business, and it was a great way to put our marketing chops to use on our own business.
Targeted marketing will certainly help you. But before you start experimenting with the next tactic, I’d advise you to step back and make sure you clearly define the following:
- What are your goals?
- Who is your best client?
- What other options do they choose?
Our marketing firm offers a process known as the business blueprint, where we answer these questions, analyze, research and validate the answers, prepare evidence-based recommendations, and a step-by-step roadmap to help you achieve your goals. If you’d like to know more, please contact me at [email address].
best regards.
I think Facebook ads would be the way to go for the 50+ crowd. Instagram is more a younger demographic.
You have the beginnings of your client profile.
You need to go more in depth to create effective Ad sets.
Think of conversation questions:
What brand camera?
What style?
Film or digital?
What equipment do you have?
What tripod? Lenses?
Then when you run the ads make sure the landing page reflects the ad.
And making email capture number one priority.
You need to have a Swiss Army Knife of ideas.
Each idea bringing in a few prospects.
You have the content now just find different places to post your pictures.
Blogs, Facebook, instagram, youtube, Pinterest, Etsy.
Think how you can have an event.
Best Travel photo wins $100.
You get free content and create a buzz.
Capture leads (emails) of people who travel and take photos.
Post a couple a day and you will have hundreds added each year. Each one pointing back to your site for the next 5-10 years.
Keep pushing ahead and eventually you be ahead of the pack.
Depending where you are at, I would reach out to senior centers, Independent living facilities, over 55 communities and make a presentation. Many times the owners of the communities have someone that would help you with setting up a meeting. The best way to reach out is provide a meal, such as subway sandwiches and the fixings from your local deli. I have done that before and have gotten a lot of response.
I'm sorry I don't have much time this afternoon, but I thought I would at least redefine your question for you in order to reach the answers you seek. The key here is to define your target audience/customer. Once you have done so, the best way to reach them will shine out like the mid-day sun.
"define your target audience/customer"
Google that very thing to get a multitude of terrific approaches.
