Hey Joe, definitely have to do some research before spending your dough.

  • identify your ideal clients
  • find out which 1-3 channels you think you might find them on
  • learn everything you can about how best to use those channels by looking for the leaders of those channels.
  • test your message on a small budget to see if you can get at least one client while turning a profit.  If you can do that then start gradually ramping up the budget over time.
  • Basically there's no simple trick.  its hard work to build a marketing strategy but if you're willing to learn, it can be done in-house. hope that helps!

Paying for ads on Facebook and Instagram is very common, but can be hit or miss in terms of ROI. If you’re working on a zilch budget, you might not want to pay for ads - but you might be willing to put the time in to become a social media guru. Here are a few places to start:

    • Create a Facebook page for your product, and start putting up pictures of your product. Invite everyone you know to like it.
    • Join Facebook Groups and sneak your product into discussions and conversations
    • Make a Facebook Custom Audience and see what kinds of groups and pages your ideal customer likes.
    • Create an Instagram account and use Instagram Stories to encourage people to check out your products
    • Get on Reddit and start talking about your company in relevant threads
    • Make a YouTube channel and subscribe to influencers in your industry
    • Get on Twitter and follow lots of people who have used a #hashtag in your industry. Retweet interesting posts and comment - the more engagement the more likely they are to follow you back (but please be tactful and actually read what they write instead of blindly commenting)
    • #Use #Lots #Of #Tags #To #Join #The #Conversation on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

Your website is the hub of your online presence, just like your brick and mortar would be in the real world. Just like your brick and mortar, you have to have a strong foundation.  On line that foundation consists of Digital Listings management and some way to get reviews of you and your company out there for public consumption.  This isn't going to get you to the top of google but it will help get you started in the right direction.  Another way would be to connect your website to a facebook page.  That gives you the freedom to show your work at any time and let people know more about you and your business.  To be honest there isn't a lot you can do with a "small" budget, but there are ways to be seen.  I have to agree with Bill Hornung.

Take some time and research where and who your prospective customers are (in some cases your customers/audience may fall under multiple categories). Writing articles and new content is always recommended if you have the time and are tight on a budget. In addition, you may want to explore writing guest blogs/articles (with links back to your website of course). Also taking time posting on social media will assist in gaining traffic, namely on professional channels such as linkedin (back to the research key, you want to research where your audience resides and which platforms will work). At the end of the day, research and content are keys.

You have a lot of good suggestions here. My thing would be utilize a more integrated approach to marketing. Using a single channel, like email, could potentially burn your list. Actually, using ANY one channel too much is not good. I’d be more than happy to discuss with you (no charge). Just give me a call and I’ll advise accordingly.

Joe, That's a great question. It's one that continually plagues business owners and managers.

The bottom line is: You want more customers. There are 2 ways to do this.

    1) You can set out to learn all that there is to know about marketing on the different platforms. On the surface, that usually appears to be the least expensive way to go. But once you get into it, you discover how much there is to know. And then, how much changes and the shifts in algorithms, and changes in policies... Unless you have a lot of time, you will find that you really can't keep up.

And then there is 2) Hire someone that is willing to work with you, starting with your small budget, and proving what they can do for you. The question should not be "How much?", but "What is my ROI?"

I think we can help you.

First, if I had a very small budget, I'd ask myself why I wanted to drive people to my website in the first place. Is it just for information delivery, or do you have some compelling offer there that people need to see. After looking at your site (which is gorgeous, by the way) your business looks to be more relationship based than individual buyer based. I would use email, SMS, and social media to build a list and then market to it hard. Individuals are not likely to be repeat buyers anytime soon, so remodelers, designers, fix-em-up's is your target market.

Should you need any help, we're happy to advise.  thx

    Joe,

Not sure what  product or services you provide. I don't know if I can help you a lot on this one.

Sam's/Walmart is a "BRAND"this organization pretty much sell themselves.

Our home office marketing team tries different globalization  strategies to  test the market for certain age groups.

They are now testing the market for "home delivery." Just trying to stay in the game.

My suggestion to you would be....  structure  a focus group and test your product  or service.

    Good Luck

    Hi Joe,

There are a lot of tools available to do what you want. But since each business is different, it would really be best if you could engage a professional marketer to speak with you about your objectives. Together you can design the strategies and associated tactics that will get you where you want to go. Otherwise, you're simply guessing and hoping for the best. Your business' future is too important to not begin with a well thought-out plan. Unless, you have unlimited funds. :) If you're interested I can provide you with some direction.
