What are the most important factors I should consider when updating the content of my website quite dramatically? Or should this be done in stages?

Well i just went to you website. Google told me your site is not secure and if I want to go back or enter your site. I went back.

If you don't have HTTPS. NO ONE will go to your site, no matter what content you have. That is one of the most important factors your site needs.

If you want your content to do the work for you can contact us and you can talk to our professional SEO about it.

Hi Irene,

updating your website content is a great strategy to meet both the expectations of your human audience as well as search engines. But doing so without a plan will most likely work against you. Here is what I recommend instead:

Before you start updating your content you should perform a complete content audit to see how your existing content is actually performing. You can gain the required insights from your Google Analytics dashboard. Take a look at which pages and posts get the most traffic, and which are no longer popular.

Make sure that all of your content is aligned with your keyword and SEO strategy, especially if you are falling behind in search rankings due to recent algorithm updates. If you are not certain which keywords or long-tail key phrases are the best for your business I recommend both an SEO audit of your existing content, as well as keyword and competitive research.

The next step will be to decide what to do with low performing content. Of course, you can simply delete it. But maybe you can update or refresh the content to give it new life. Or perhaps you can combine different content pieces into one.

Another option is to repurpose your existing content to give it new life. For instance, a blog post can become a webinar, podcast or white paper. Mix it up a little for best results.

If you are citing examples, provide statistical data or use other references make sure they are still current and accurate. If not replace them with more appropriate ones.

As you edit and create new content be sure to align it with the user expectations and consumption behaviors of modern consumers. Make sure your content is easy to consume across all devices. Keep in mind that less is more in 2018!

And finally, content updates can take a lot of time. You can make this easier on yourself and get more benefits over time by doing this in stages. Identify the content most in need of a refresh, and start with that. Work your way down your content list and soon you will have fresh, relevant and engaging content that your human and search engine audience requires to show you more digital love!

The biggest thing to take care with is your SEO. Assuming you have some decent rankings already, you don't want to lose that. Otherwise, be sure you content is clear and talks to people in a way they would liked to be talked to. Be sure to answer their questions and make it easy to contact you. Hope that helps!

Depending on how often you update your site now. A trickle down approach will start to show google that you are making edits on a more regular basis and will start to spider and rank your pages more.

In my opinion it doesn't really matter. What matters is giving your clients the newest information and letting them know you have up-dated your information. You should up-date your sitemap.xml file to tell the search engine bots thangs have changed.

Your website is often the first impression you will make on your customers, so a well-maintained website is essential to attract and keep them engaged. If you have news or events on your site, keeping that information current is critical to making your company feel cutting edge and involved in your industry.

there is no wrong or right answer to this question.  question you should ask is why have you not updated it before it needed updating? with  a new website I think everyone should tweak it up to stay fresh. If you dramatically change your site then advertise  it on social media and ask them to take a look.

This depends on the purpose of the update. If it is merely content updates, I don't think it matters too much if you do it all at once or in stages. If you are looking to make a new splash for your customers/clients/constituents then I would do it all at once, and strongly consider if you need any re-design work as well.

And if the content is a dramatic change, as you say, then I would make sure that the content structure/organization of your site is still appropriate. You want to make sure everything is organized in a way that is easy to understand and navigate.

Make sure new content is as concise as you can make it, so that it is easy to scan.

Provide information that your clients will value. Be consistent in posting content, make a calendar for posting new content. Just take action.

That is a complicated question with many options or strategies... I deal with a lot of small businesses that need to redesign to refocus their target market, keep up with SEO and design changes and WAGWA 2.0 Accessibility standards. As well as the creation of a proper e-commerce website.

First I would start with an evaluation of needs. Redesign vs. tweaking an existing site, converting to a standalone site vs. CMS. In most cases it is better to convert a website to a CMS and then editing content later will be much easier.

However, if budget is a concern, then making small changes can be more beneficial to you. Also, doing gradual changes will help with retention of clients the business already has and not be a shock to older clients, while also attracting new clients.

Feel free to reach out if you need help or further explanation of any of these points.
