Believe it or not I find the phone a great sales tool. But I have learned to manage the contacts in a way that isn't offending. Plenty of people calling small businesses for SEO these days.
I've also run Google Ads which is great. What's great about Google Ads is the granularity you can get to so quickly with your campaigns. If managed properly Google Ads is a super tool. Manged improperly you might as well hook a vacuum cleaner up to your bank account.
Working with websites in content marketing and SEO is another channel I'll use. Developing great content and building good traffic with solid on line engagement takes time, but I've found in the long run it's best for your business. Keeping in mind that there are plenty of SEO folks out there that will sink you pretty good.
And I've used mail. I think today the trick is to engage in as many channels as feasible. Budgets are sometimes a constraint, but a well planned overall campaign can be very effective. Look to list building, social engagement, and solid calls to action on your website to be effective.
