Building the relationship. If you don't get to know someone first, they'll feel the only reason you want to talk to them is to sell them something. 

Building a relationship with my potential customer.  I want to learn more about them and their needs so that I can better serve them should they take my service.

Building the relationship allows you to discover and help fix a customers unique problem. When you form and foster the relationship the customer will most likely stay a customer. 

Building a relationship and asking questions to get to know their business 

Understand that people buy the better version of themselves using your product or service. After that understand the role that emotions play on a person decision making process. And finally Delivering a pitch that covers those areas. 

That the customer understands it's their need I want to address, not just my pocket.
