What is the biggest obstacle you face in your industry?

Finding skilled help is the issue. There needs to be a serious overhaul of the high school system and skilled trades need to be put back in them not taken away.

I would not call it an obstacle because there is an easy remedy due to the technology available today but I feel that we could sharpen our skills in communication.  We have seemed to have lost some of our ability to communicate.

I guess it would have to be getting a reasonable amount of jobs based on the bids I give.  Clients are going to get more than one quote so we feel that if we get 1 out of 3, we are doing pretty good.  However there are times when a client may run you back and forth for a job you will never get so your time, gas, and wear and tear on the car goes for nothing.  Just the way it goes, I guess.

I believe when one has a unique custom product, it should continue to be fresh and lively. I believe the marketing strategy must be targeted to those building 'custom' homes. Answer: keeping it fresh and researching and budgeting the best marketing locales. Good question!

Just starting out as a real estate investor the biggest obstacle to overcome is education and knowledge.  There are things you need to do to protect yourself and if you don't have the education and knowledge you can leave yourself open to devastating situations.  Surround yourself with the right people.  We use tax, business, and law advisors.  Other than that it is what you would expect, finding the right property, realtor, Gen. Contractor, and of course funding, and buyers.

biggest obstacle currently is the Tarriff's that might be put on steel being imported which has the pricing very volatile and prices quoted are good for 24 hours and 24 hours only so to satisfy an order you must revisit to ensure material still available and pricing still valid each day is an adventure

The two biggest obstacles I see are:

 Shortage of skilled/qualified labor.  This is noted by many already.

Too many installing companies that are willing to work for very low prices.  Luckily a lot of times those companies do not last very long, but they hurt the established/reputable companies while they are around by taking a lot of work below the market value.
