Almost 10 years ago, I had a business column in a hyperlocal online newspaper. I profiled local businesses, focusing on family-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. The response to my articles was very favorable, both from the readers and from the subjects of the articles. Unfortunately, that newspaper was bought out, and the new owners selected all new staff.
A few years later, I was reading a local print publication and came across an article about one of the businesses that I had previously profiled. I found myself reading entire paragraphs that I had written. I dug out the electronic copy of my article. When I got no response from the editor, I contacted the publisher. He investigated and learned that when the reporter asked for information about the business, the owner handed him a copy of my article. The reporter read it, updated a few figures and added a few sentences.
The publisher and I met in person to discuss the situation. He had talked to the reporter and assured me it wouldn't happen again. As part of the resolution, I submitted an article about my work that he published in the next edition.
Yes . My first song I ever wrote & recorded was released with out my permission, I found out when it blew up on another persons YouTube years ago . Honestly I was really mad & hurt face 😭 because I didn’t get the recognition for my song Or get paid for it I created no one else in the world could have did that but me & No one even knew it was me lol but on the contrary it motivated me to continue my music career because of the huge response from it . I never did any thing legal about it honestly because I didn’t think I could at the time I didn’t have a clue about the business aspect of this industry it was my passion I did think about Rerecording and putting out an official release . Over all I was devastated and it showed me the ugly side of the business early in my career .
I did this online interview with Authority Magazine. The topic was "The 5 Things You Need to Know to Become a Great Author." Dated Sept. 9, 2020.
I went to google the article afterward and I found a link to a completely different site. There I found my exact article, word-for-word . . . along with another guy taking credit for "OUR" answers!
If you google this you will probably see it yourself. I sent the guy a message via his site asking him when was he going to contact me for an interview. Never heard from him . . .
A long time ago, I woked with a fella that was a song writer and he was giving me pointers on how to perfect my writings and what to look for. I was a nieve kids when I wrote my stuff. I was also nieve, when talking to this fella at work. I trusted him. After I was out sick one day, I came back to find all of my notebooks gone from my desk........ Later, it turns out that he had friends in high places, rewrote one of my songs and took the credit for my idea.......which is perfectly legal in that business.....However, I am at peace with what happened now, but I have learned my lesson the hard way.
In high school I wrote several cheesy, romantic poems to a girlfriend. We eventually broke up, and a year later she published my poems in the school literary journal as her own. Oddly, at the time, I was flattered to have been published, even if under her name. :)
My wife, searching google, found an article I had written. I sent a cease and desist and they sent me a letter pleading ignorance and a check, then hired me to write more. So in the end it turned out pretty well.
Yes I once wrote, cast and produced a theatrical production, all based on my experiences in my life. After the show I was approached by Luc Besson, the Hollywood film director’s associates - while he sat in my audience scowling at me, never saying a word. The movie LUCY came out after that. I felt dizzy and nearly passed out in the street when I saw the poster. In spite of the film grossing 500 million dollars, I have never seen one red cent. Beware showing the industry your work, they like to bribe lawyers AND judges.

Pirating books is almost second nature to some people. I've had my books pirated. I just hope they had enough moral integrity to write a nice review.

Yes. They even left my watermark on it. Lol. A friend tagged me in the person's post. Told them to take it down until they pay me.
