The most important thing in responding to negative reviews is being committed to making improvements in your business. You can respond with a great answer or resolution for the complaining customer but if you don’t do anything about it your business will continue to suffer exponentially. A complaint is an opportunity to improve and meet your customers’ needs and desires. Those very needs and desires can drive your business to success. Look at a business like Stew Leonard’s as an example. If you’re not familiar with Stew Leonard’s Google it. Their whole business concept is built on pleasing the customer. The customer is always right, even when they are wrong. There may be some excessive complainers but we must show appreciation for them expressing their needs and then decide if they are our target customer. Stew Leonard’s once had a customer complain that their fresh fish wasn’t fresh. It was simply a customer perception since Stew made sure that the fish was brought in fresh everyday. With the customer’s input they ended up putting the fresh fish on beds of ice. The extra expense of ice was far out weighed by the increase in sales of fish.
Thank your customers for their feedback no matter how negative. It is your opportunity to improve your business to be more successful!

Dear Daddy-Daughter Drama,
1 Start by stopping giving advice...no more telling. The days of telling are over and unless you are asked you should not give advice. As Kids grow older they want to learn the hard way by making their own mistakes and unless it is going to be an extremely costly one we should be doing this gradually from the time they are growing into adolescents. 2 If you feel the need to give advice ask for permission first. It is always more accepted when you have been given permission. This is not an opportunity to open the flood gates. Just keep it simple and to the point so you don't abuse your granted permission. Something like "could I offer you some advice about that?"
3 This is all on you (Dad) to know how to communicate with your daughter and you'll need lots of practice to get it right. The more you empower her and encourage her, for even the littlest things, the better role model you will be and the more ownership she will take of every decision she makes. While taking more ownership for results of her decisions she will begin to realize that maybe she needs your advice so as not to make too costly of a mistake, otherwise I'm pretty sure she's got this. Let her succeed without your input and she will come to you with questions more, and eventually you will get all the credit for years of good parenting.

Cease and desist letter is your first step. Then your answer is public relations. Get your face and name out in public by attending chamber of commerce events, volunteering, going to other business mixers and shaking a lot of hands while handing out business cards. Reach out to local media in an attempt to get yourself and your business featured in the news. You'll probably have to come up with something newsworthy that nobody else is doing to get featured but the idea is to build your public identity so that your face and name are synonymous with your business. Then you can't be copied.
Google: Stew Leonard commercials...good luck!

Dear Exhausted,
I wish you the best as the post concussive syndrome you seem to describe can really be debilitating. I hope there is someone you can really trust to run your business as that is your best alternative. Don't count anyone out that seems to be responsible in their own rite as you never know who will be willing to step up and help. While your memory and focus may be lacking your business has to continually reinvent itself to stay on track. Perhaps the little guidance and coaching you can offer now will be enough for the right person. Give your brain the healing time it needs or the headaches and dizzy spells will get worse.
By the time you are able to get back to business you may find that the person you counted on has developed enough to be the business leader that you have not allowed in your business up until now! Remember to use empathy and compassion with the trusted person and they will return those values to you.
