I have been using QuickBooks since it began as DOS version 1. It is now up to QuickBooks 2019 and 2020 will be out soon. We maintain accounting records for a lot of small businesses and we use QuickBooks for all of the companies for which we do the accounting work. And several of our clients use QuickBooks to do their work and send us the file at tax time or when they have issues. In the past we used Writeup Solutions and Peachtree (now Sage, I think) but found QuickBooks to be a better program for our needs. Yes, there are startup issues for the non-accountant. I suggest to new clients that are going to use the program that they meet with us to set up their company account and chart of accounts before getting started. I also advise clients who are considering doing the work themselves that it takes longer to FIX the problems they create than for us to do the work from the start I highly recommend the use of QuickBooks desktop for the accounting needs of small businesses.
