We are in the garment restoration business. We went to the biggest Restoration contractor in Ont at the time and asked them if they had someone dedicated to doing garment restoration what would you want them to do. They told me they already had someone, actually 2 companies that did that for them. We asked what would you find most helpful for you if you had options? They gave us a list of 10 things that would make their work easier and more productive. We said we could do that. They called with a fire job the next day and 18 years later we still do their work. We also made them a promise that 5 years down the road we would be working just as hard to keep them as a customer as we were doing at the start and we still are. Never, ever, lose sight of what got you started. Make every job you do for a client, like it was the first.
Keep focused and don't bring in too many options for your clients, be the best at what you start out doing and stick with it. Many times people will branch out with too many added elements and lose sight of what the core business is.
Any company can screw up their business, remember that!
Determine what your business is before you approach marketing it!
