*The business profitable growth has turned downward or is flat
*The business owner has 2-3 years to prepare for succession
*The owner knows there is something is not right and wants consulting help to diagnose and build a comprehensive plan for growth.

Working with small businesses with 10-50 employees I have elected to coach business owners on line using Zoom or other delivery system. I have found this very effective and accepted by business owners. Business owners need to look at how sales will be done- less travel will be the trend.  Where online ordering is appropriate or not. I would study others who have made this transition and adopt models that are proven.

Yes, I will start a smaller project if I sense it will  be congruent in the long term need and will be effective and do "no harm" to the organization in long term. Also, if I lay out a longer term relationship action plan I work in stages. At the same time  cautioning the owner(s) not to begin this project (relationship) if they are not committed to following through.  I have discovered that in my many years of experience that owners and their consultants can unintentionally do harm to the business. At the same time, I realize that is often necessary to treat the "want" if it moves the organization and the owner closer to the "need".

In either case, this is a leadership/management issue.

Your survival instincts have kicked in and are helping you stabilize, as others have stated - you are to be congratulated on taking action. As going forward in your business, I cannot offer any specific suggestions without knowing more. I would suggest any professional trade association you may belong to to as a beginning source to find direction to start a revenue flow. Maybe a joint venture with a publication serving the same market but with a different theme. Lastly, I would go to your strengths to build on and outsource or hire non-strengths. To start, list the responsibilities you carried out when your husband and business partner was alive. Make two lists- tasks that you liked and was good at and tasks you did and did not like. This maybe a starting point.
