About Us

The therapeutic process begins by the nature of who we are when we share the same space together. Ever since I can remember I have held a strong appreciation for the experience of others, and I am intrigued by perspectives that bring strength and hope just as much as the ponderings of adversity in life. I started this journey in childhood, writing my thoughts and concerns about family issues. By 1992 I learned there are groups for dysfunctional family systems. At age 27 I joined a small group and soon became a facilitator. Through the years I have worked with groups, mentored women, and counseled in some way. This is the heartbeat of who I am, and this is the catalyst for the business I started for a private practice. I find that I am not smarter but wiser, to learn continuously of a culture that is ever-changing.

How We Got Started

George Fox University: MA in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling and years of research on behalf of families informs my work for client care. I recently added a new skill to my work, with the hope that more clients can be helped. Every day is an opportunity to encourage each person we come in contact with!

(more) Your question leaves me curiously driven to know more about your own perspective of someone who is "highly resistant to change"  There are many factors missing here: What is your relationship with the person you describe?, Are they resistant to change or is that your perception of something they are working through?, and how do they need to see the light? Your thoughts about seeing the light about something that bothers you may be completely off track with another person's needs. (please note this is written with a thoughtful tone and not a derogatory manner). I also ponder the topic here: What is it they are resistant to change? I prefer to offer a thoughtful approach and provide opportunities to think through a person's own needs, not my ideas about what they should/shouldn't do. I think we need to be careful with our thoughts about others. "There is a light at the end of the tunnel and it is not a train : )  "

There is a tendency to think someone else will do something about the situation.  My own stance is usually an observance of the altercation/circumstance and then to determine how I can help or if the police need notified. In today's world we cannot merely step into a situation because there are so many factors involved: "Is there a weapon?" "Are there children present?" If the altercation is verbal I try to think of communication that helps the process and I don't overlook it. (there are many details left out of your question - are they family members? friends?) When the parties involved are in a relationship, you have a greater opportunity to help by spending time and attention with the injured and the injurious or to direct them for professional assistance.

I intuitively journaled my young heart out on numerous notebooks and spent time pondering life until 3:00 am in the morning many days. I was unable to process what was happening until I felt I could come up for air about a year after their divorce and I found strength in writing, observing, and taking long walks to sort through the pain and solitude I experienced. The memory of this experience has informed me with methods to help clients through their pain, whether it is related to depression or grieving another type of loss. Memories can leave scars and we eventually learn that they can define us in strengthening ways.

Do you have time to interview DHS or other organizations who align with your request? (Case manager) Seems this may open some opportunities for you?

Toastmasters is a platform you can gain speaking experience with, and there are many others who attend, with your same inquiry. Congratulations on your business!
