About Us

Studio 4 PR and the Get R.E.A.L Girl help creative entrepreneurs get realistic, engaging, authentic, and longlasting (in other words, real) visibility for their business. We look forward to helping you!

How We Got Started

I’ve worked in broadcasting, corporate communications, tourism/hospitality, non profit, and internet marketing. The common denominator was either working IN the media or WITH the media to help business and community leaders get noticed. It became clear to me that the fastest growing sector of U.S. businesses (small/solopreneur) was also the most underserved by the public relations industry. I am on a mission to change that.

In my field (PR for entrepreneurs), definitely! With technology changing so fast (and making it hard to keep up), I try to stay on top of what I need to know so I can best serve my clients. The challenge is that everyone considers themselves an expert—and they’re not. (more) In my field (PR for entrepreneurs), definitely! I don’t know what your business is, but can you put them on quarterly billing or maybe give them a discount if they pay annually? Mornings are more structured and there’s a time limit because people have to get to work, so there’s not enough time to really connect with people. I usually try and get business cards from those I want to connect with and follow up later. Lunchtime has more flexibility, if there’s a speaker or program, there’s an opportunity to talk with others at your table. If everyone is seated at tables, hopefully the event sponsor provides everyone with a list of everyone who attended and the you can connect with people who were not at your table. I think evening events are the most laidback because people are out of work and relaxed. I haven’t had more luck at one over the other. I think it all depends on how comfortable you are at talking about what you do and listening to others do the same.

I have a PR business for entrepreneurs and small business owners, and was excited to try Tumbtack as a lead generator. They have a lot of requests in the PR/Marketing/Writing, etc categories, so I was encouraged that every few minutes my phone would ping with a new request. My first hire was by a woman with a really bad reputation for paying, so after two months of "the check is in the mail", I had to cut her loose. The most annoying part of Thumbtack is that they don't require the customer to put in any details about the job. They also have a really strange way of charging for each quote based on the amount of competition in that category, so some of the jobs cost $5 and some cost $30, but who is going to pay that much when the job has zero information? I do have one great client from Thumbtack, and for that, I'm very grateful, but I'm definitely passing on a lot more jobs that quoting.
