Yes, I believe they will be around, others have touched on the customer service end of it. Also Amazon spends a lot of money researching their customer base and trends, so why would they be opening brick and mortar stores at a record pace if they didn't see atrend happening. People like to touch and feel, unfortunately some times they use us for our expert info and then go home and buy on the internet. Many business's in my industry are getting tired of consumers using us for window shopping then purchase online, then when there is a problem they come and complain to us! and then if we don't give them answers or help them for FREE! we get the bad review! Not the online retailers that took their money and now cannot answer their questions or help them! Many retailers in my industry are starting to go back to the old days of if you purchased it from them they will bend over backwards to help you, if you purchased from the internet you'll have to call the place you purchased it from and they should hopefully help you since they took your hard earned money! As a small business everyone is going to have to change or like someone said their will be a lot of stores that won't make it. But for the stores that do i think they will prosper. The way we combat these issues is we offer a discounted labor rate if they purchase from us and better warranties. We are also doing business with Manufactures that want to be our partners in business, and not sell their products on the internet, because if your selling on the internet it has to be cheap! and as the old saying goes "you get what you paid for" I've been in business for over 30years, and I could go on and on about how consumers don't see the effect it is putting on their communities when they don't purchase locally, like jobs disappearing, your taxes going up on your home, it's amazing that so many people don't realize what's going on, they just see that deal they can get online and not see the big picture of business's going out and that means tax revenues for those communities are now gone , so where do you think they make up that money lost for community programs? you got it! they go after the home owners because they have something invested in the community! So I love it when a home owner is in my store complaining their school and county taxes went up again. I say to them "do you do shopping online? they say yes a lot" then i get to explain to them why shopping online effects his taxes. funny to watch the light come on in their head!
