I help people reach their full potential. I have blended old and new Psychology with old and new business practices along with a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership. I have created my own Leadership model, personal "Wagon wheel" self help, and I am a Life Coach. (more) Hello Marissa, I must say, Abhi and Maury nailed it.  There is enough business for you and the big franchises.  However, if you want to grow fast, you must have a BRAND that stands out.  Much like Abhi stated, "what is your unique selling point USP".  I can think of one right recently, Super Cuts.  As you can imagine, the hair cutting industry is huge, so how would one stand out here?  Well, Super Cuts added a Hot Towel around the back of your neck to finish the experience.  This upgrade not only has customers leaving with a good feeling, warm neck (thus, remembering them a bit better), but also it was a free service that will be something easy for the customer to share with their friends.   For you in the massage business, you will need that USP (as stated by Abhi) to leave your customers with that great unique feeling so they tell their friends.  What could that be?  Not a big massage person myself.  Maybe a custom foot massage as this is where a lot of pressure points are located in the body.  Maybe a small Thank You package when they leave with a small sample of specialized body wash and a fragrance candle for a nice quiet bubble bath at home (Of course, it would help if you sold both items in your facility).   Good luck going forward.  If you want to share any ideas, just shoot me a message. (more) Interesting philosophical question Kayla. My thoughts on the topic is that the Internet that is the largest social media that is totally ungoverned, unregulated, and opens exposure to anyone and everyone.  We can willingly search out questions or search for missing friends or family.  We can socialize with people around the world.  Some people didn't like the 100% exposure (while criminals love it), thus created smaller groups such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and more.   Thus, to answer your question, the internet is totally social (and massively manipulated).  However, a lot of people don't know how to socialize on the Internet while others only know how to use specific programs with selected brand directions such as LinkedIn for business.   Just my two cents, thank you for the deeper thought. (more) Hello Peter,  First, I must say "Thank you" for your 31 years of service in the Navy".  That is an awesome contribution to our country.   As for Branding, if you like bowling blindfolded, then sure, you don't need Branding.  Otherwise, Branding is your focus, your direction, what keeps you aligned with your values, give you the reason to keep some things and discard others.  Branding is what you are ABOUT, who you are and what your Passion is! For example, my Brand is "People 1st".  That means when I go to a business to help them grow, I look at the people side first.  Are they taking care of their employees, do they have quality benefits, what are the employees saying, what are the customers saying...thus People 1st.  Now, if I get interested in something else, such as insurance sales, I look at it and ask, "Is this a People 1st" product?  Yes, it offers peace of mind and protection in a world that needs a lot of protection.   On the other hand, if a friend comes to me with a product that only helps a business, or enhances a program; that is not People 1st, thus I am not interested.   Brand awareness is your goal and 100% commitment is the only way to grow your Brand.  Much like WalMart known for lowest prices; thus everything they do is to show they are constantly lowering prices.  Subaru is known for safety, thus their commercials and all of their focus is about safety.   And, if your Brand really gets strong, you can own the WORD such as companies like; Q-tip...when people ask for a cotton swab, they say, "I need a Q-tip".  Here is another, "I need a hook and loop fastener", no you ask for Velcro.  This type of ownership is rare, however it is possible as I am sure you can name a few others once you start to think about it.   So, take off the blindfold and target in on making a Strike!  Figure out what you want to be known for and what is your passion.  Put the two together and you will have a start to developing a quality Brand.

Just curious if any one here has run into any challenges for a left handed customer/employee?  Or did you even know these challenges existed? I am doing research on this topic so any and all comments appreciated.  I also know that some of your parents shared stories about not being ALLOWED to be left handed.  I do have some replies regarding this issue on my blog.  And, the military has share and extremely high rate of accidents for left handed soldiers due to right hand dominate equipment.   Roddy

(more) Hello Gerard,Congratulations for making it 2 years!  I would agree, if you delivered "RAVING FAN" service, your previous customers should be "outside sales reps" for you.  I have had the best success with, what I call a "Clear Vision" discount; 20/20.  Depending on what you want to do, it can either be $20 off for the new referred customer and $20 off for your existing customers next purchase or the same with percentages. However, I will give a warning, if you start down this path, expect to stay in the discount mode for a while as more customers will want discounts going forward.  And, you will probably never know if your existing customers got mad that they didn't get a bonus for someone else they referred, or when they made their initial purchase.  When we ran the "20/20" program, it worked for this company as prices go up and down due to trends and can absorb the profit loss quickly.  Personally, I would go after customer reviews.  These can be even better than any discount if in fact you DO deliver RAVING FAN customer service and you always go the extra mile.  These reviews will generally be sincere and new customers reading them will FEEL the care you put into your business; thus your investment towards your customers.  More and more people are reading reviews and making their buying decisions from what they read and feel from reviews.  Money is not the #1 motivator that many believe, granted it is in the top 3, but not always #1.  Lastly, if you build your business on integrity, trust and value; you will sleep better at night and have a solid base of followers for your future growth.  Just my two cents, hope it helps,Roddy"Motivate People are the Foundation for ANY THRIVING business!"
