The computer and the web are how people communicate and locate services needed? The day of  the yellow pages are long gone. My business is still very much a face to face business. I provide personal service at homes and businesses in the greater Houston area and you must have the skill set to let your customer know they have made the best choice in calling your company. However if you don't have the exposure on the internet that is required these days you will never get a service call and wind up out of  business.

They are purely out to sell leads to multiple contractors and make as much money as they can without providing a real service. Angie's List was their biggest problem so they bought out the competition. I had great success on Angie's List up until Home Advisor got the controlling interest. Angie's List works more like HA now and your reviews and the merit of what you have built are not as easily seen as in the past. I went from getting 8 to 20 calls per day from Angie's to getting 3 to 5 a week if I an lucky? Home Advisor really pushes selling leads to as many contractors as possible. Thor Enterprises

I understand that people have the right to say what they want even if it is detrimental or hurtful to someone else? I have had bad reviews written in the past about my company and there has always been a place to respond. I read what is said and respond truthfully. I most cases where I have gotten a bad review I had to agree with the person writing the complaint. Most of the time when I get a bad posting it is from not making an appointment or not contacting them. I am a small company and sometimes I miss something I am supposed to do? In a case like this I have to agree that the person did not get the treatment they should have and have every right to be up set with me. I also point out that the reason they are displeased is the fact that they did not receive service from me not because of bad service or a poorly job done. There are many reasons that can change what goes on in ones life in a day. Sometimes that changes the course of what gets done or over looked. Some of us are better at getting more done than others? I try hard to not disappoint but I am not going to let someone else bother me by saying something bad in a review as long as I can respond with what I believe to be the truth.

(more) I don't go to any special lengths to secure a customer. If a customer chooses to use my company, that's when sometimes great lengths are gone to. Example I sent my guys out to install a new light fixture on a home that had a light fixture on one side of the front door but not the other side. The customer wanted matching light fixtures on each side of the door. I quoted somewhere between $400 and $500 to do the job. Well things did not go as planed but my guys had already cut the hole in the siding to install the new fixture. The home was an older house and the framing did not allow the wiring to be fished in as needed. To make things worse, above the front door the customer had an awning installed. In order for me to complete my $500 job, I had to hire a general contractor to remove the awning and some of the wood siding. When the customer saw what was going on he was uncomfortable  to say the least. I told my customer that when I was done it would exactly like what he had ask for. He then informed me that there was no way I could match the paint on the front of his home. I told him there was not going to be any problem with matching the paint because I was painting the entire front of his home. Well sure enough when I was finished the customer was very happy. I gave him the invoice for the agreed amount of $500 and he wrote a check for $800 and said thank you. It no where near covered the job but I went the extra mile to make my job right and my customer happy. Things don't go that way very often but when they do, if you care about your reputation you step up and do what it takes.

If you go to a good lighting store, and there are several in the Houston area. You get technical support and advice on what product works best for the application. They are not as cheap as the box store but for quality and higher end lighting projects it is the better bet.   (more) If you go to a good lighting store, and there are several in the Houston area.
