About Us

Surf City Insurance Services, Inc. has been the go-to source for Employer and Employee Benefits and individual health insurance for decades. Check their YELP reviews.

A co-author of the recently released "There's More to Financial Planning than Financial Planning" agency principal Dee Dee Brooks maintains that it's easy to be "insurance poor". With her team, skillfully led by Nicole Seibert, PHR, they can quickly gauge feasibility of moving into employee benefits, and take the stress off of you with plan selection, plan maintenance, HIPAA-protected new hire processing and claims adjudication.

Many agencies no longer provide individual health insurance planning or Medicare planning, but again Surf City Insurance Services feels its their civic duty to lend their guidance and help seniors and individuals with all aspects of their health, dental, life, disability, and retirement planning needs.

it is said that today's employees value flexible hours as much as any other benefit --- often more.   I have one employee (almost 17 years with us) who moved out of state and we kept her on (about 10 years ago now).   With technology, she doesn't miss a beat.   Most people are surprised to learn... (more) it is said that today's employees value flexible hours as much as any other benefit --- often more.   I have one employee (almost 17 years with us) who moved out of state and we kept her on (about 10 years ago now).   With technology, she doesn't miss a beat.   Most people are surprised to learn that she's 100% work from home.   It greatly improved her life (no child care costs), and greatly improved mine too.   Sometimes an email would come in at 9 pm (health insurance does that), and I would go to answer it and see it had already been taken care of.    Working from home for some is a learning curve.   I know when I once worked from home my friends thought it was fair game to be available for go-out lunch every day.  And I value the employee.   For the right employee, they carve out their space and we concentrate on their talents and everyone benefits.  Granted, there are some tasks NO ONE wants to do, and we do have job descriptions, but give me a break, guys.  Who wants to work every day 9-5 with a couple weeks vacation and then turn around and be age 65 and call that a life?    When I started Surf City Insurance, I was hopeful that we could mirror my brother's world (he's a professor) and grant sabbaticals every 7 years.   We are not there yet, likely will never be, but a little flexibility, a lot of teamwork, and we all appreciate the agency's success together.

Some carriers allow this & some do not.   There have been issues over the years with worker's comp claims and independent contractors treated as an employee in one situation; as an excluded contractor in others.   So there's that. (more) Some carriers allow this & some do not.   There have been issues over the years with worker's comp claims and independent contractors treated as an employee in one situation; as an excluded contractor in others.   So there's that. Cafeteria Plans exclude 1099rs, except for licensed insurance agents who may participate in a captive situation where they do not have a W2 relationship with that employer.    Similar to a W2 employee cannot write off their health insurance costs on their personal income tax, how would you expect a 1099r to pay with after tax dollars to the holder of the group insurance contract and then have to get something for personal tax return. I like the idea of it when it's available because group benefits trend to be good in multiple states and here in California, all the IFP plans limit services (except for emergencies) to the state of California. All of this is so complicated.   Why, I cannot tell you, but that's why people use us ---- we understand the nuances and can best advise to the situation as it stands today --- which may (and likely will) change tomorrow.
