Instead of paying for random advertising, I work my Facebook page 5-6 days a week and have my FB posts posted directly to my website (set up by Factor of 4, my web host). Check it out: www.greatbackrubs.com. What this does is increase my website's visibility to Google. It's like a natural SEO tool. Since I've started this, my monthly visitors has increased by 30%. Hits have gone up to 1500/day or 45,000 a month (up from about 17,000). I also boost posts on Facebook to my followers (only about 400) and their friends, why typically gains a reach of 600-1500 depending on the post. I only spend about $30/month on FB boosted posts, but they are great fun. I also optimized my site for smart phone use. If you look at my site on your phone, you'll see this.

I won't pay to have my business name high on the search ranks. They could also be calling your competitor down the street. I post regular on Facebook, also on my blog, and make changes to my web site. And also add or change things on my Google Plus Page. So far, it keeps me high on the first page or right at the top when you Google search for auto repairs. We have a lot of new customers who say they found us on the internet.

I was with Yodle for about a year and was not seeing the returns I was hoping for. They have a proprietary interface to give you the metrics. I switched to a company called Platypus. Platypus runs campaigns directly in Google Adwords and I can follow the metrics directly from my Adwords account. We have seen a 20% spike in impressions and a similar increase in Clicks. One thing that Platypus suggested just this month was trying an 80% mobile - 20% desktop split in our 2 campaigns. I have seen an obvious increase in impressions on the Mobile side, but a 100% increase in clicks and converted clicks. Yodle had us at 50% desktop and 50% Mobile, and never remotely suggested a switch in strategy. That was an indication to me that Platypus wants our numbers to increase and are continuely looking for ways to tweak our campaigns. You may also want to go with a local SEO company that has some good reviews. They will know your market even better and may have some specifics that would help in your area that other national vendors don't.

The problem with Yodle is that the asset they rank in search belongs to them - not you. So, if you decide to leave you have nothing. Or that is how it was explained to me. If you are a local business looking to rank in search - I can at least help with the questions to ask. Pretty competent in this area, local search.

I'm using yp.com and getting over a 1000 views and close to a hundred hits to my site per month. I've noticed a slight increase in calls since starting with them in November. The cost is $69/month.

Scott, I have tried Yodle and the ROI wasn't good at all. Their customer service was Ok, however I didnt really see a jump in sales, however someone in a different line of business may have a different result.

As a professional SEO agancy, I can weigh in and say, we have done testing and I would personally pass on their services.

I also had very little luck with Yodle, but spent quite a bit of money. I felt they were very high pressure, and their fees represented how much money they believed they could get from you. Every time I called to complain, they reduced the rate. I think the need for aggressive SEO really depends on the type of business you have. Mine is a specialty business and much of it comes through referral and not random google searches. I just needed to make sure potential clients could find me on the net.

I have not tried Yodle. But, I have tried RTD, Yelp, Angie's List, Groupon and Living Social. Believe it or not, I even put an add on the back of grocery store receipts. Let me know if you are interested in how any of those went.

I have used them for a Moving company I owned and it worked enough to make my money back, but not really get much of a return. Then I hired them for my Real Estate Company and it has been a complete waste and actually more work as they can really hurt your other SEO efforts and confuse people with multiple sites etc. I would pass.
