How We Got Started

The Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank was founded in 1971 by a community member, Bob Gray, who saw hungry people in his rural community who were reluctant to seek assistance. Bob understood that in communities of relative affluence such as Issaquah and Sammamish, the stigma of seeking help for basic needs runs deep. What began as a quiet place to get emergency food, clothing, and financial assistance has grown into a vibrant resource center that provides approximately 5,000 individuals with food, clothes, household and hygiene items, financial assistance, and case management services, as well as special programs for children, seniors, and those with mobility issues. All resources are provided at no cost to recipients and funded by the generosity of individuals and organizations in the community, as well as grant funds.

We believe in collaborating with the community as a whole to come around those who are struggling to treat them with dignity and provide tangible resources to meet their needs.
