How We Got Started

🌱 How We Got Started

Teaching Ithaca Wellness was born from a deep dive into the mechanics of human connection and personal boundaries. After a career spanning research labs and classroom education, I realized that many professional "friction points" stem from a lack of somatic awareness and clear boundary frameworks. My journey through various healing arts and boundary-focused modalities led me to develop the Concentric Boundaries curriculum.

Today, I use that foundation to provide B2B communication audits and somatic intensives that help leaders and teams navigate the "Double Empathy Problem" and foster truly collaborative environments.

I have an early bedtime, and schedule 20 minutes for my own movement and meditation practice before 7AM each day. Throughout the day I take a one-minute reset whenever I begin to feel stressed--just set a timer for a minute, smile, breathe, be in the present moment, then move on with whatever is next. Hope it helps!

I'm in training for a profession where this could become an issue, and I have planned on home-delivery of my services. For me, I plan on working with groups rather than individuals, but those groups would likely support any member who made such a claim. I believe my biggest precaution is to remain constantly impeccable in my own actions, and diligent with client screening protocols. I would check if the potential client had made reports about other service providers before working with them, and carry appropriate liability insurance.

I'm a big fan of Allyson Lewis's 7 minute life, and would highly recommend taking a few minutes each week to set the top priorities for each day of the work week. When you have a plan that is in alignment with your goals and you follow-through, the feeling of accomplishment is very motivating, and it really only takes a few moments to set a plan and implement it. When you do those things which are highest priority first, and when you are at your peak, then you are able to take on the busy work in the time remaining after having completing your top priority objective for the day.
