About Us

We look forward, with the help of all the supporters, to a future of continued promotion of Russian arts and culture, running more programs at the wonderful space in Jersey City and around the world and to inspire the generations to come.

How We Got Started

The Museum of Russian Art in Jersey City was opened on
September 15, 1980, the 16th anniversary of the Moscow “bulldozer” exhibition. This was the second of two affiliated museums, the first having been opened in Paris a few years earlier. Until 1990, both museums popularized the art of Russian nonconformists, such as Oscar Rabin, Vladimir Nemukhin, Boris Sveshnikov, Anatoliy Zverev, Oleg Tselkov, Ernst Neizvestney, Erik Bulatov, Mikhail Shemiakin, Vladimir Yakovlev, Eduard Shteinberg, Olga Vasilieva and other nonofficial artists from the Soviet Union, as well as artists presently living in the US and other countries. In 2005, the Museum
of Russian Art celebrated it’s 25th anniversary with three exhibitions in Jersey City, Moscow, and Paris.
