Ask them specifically what they need and my guess is that you may need something from a lawyer that shows legal entitlement.  Insurance companies are very careful about paying anyone other than the "named insured" on a policy and they have good reason. There have been cases where they have paid out a child, later to find out that there were multiple children fighting who all claimed rights to the $$$.  I've seen this situation fairly often and it can be a pain but...
