What Do You Look for in a Home Insurance Partner?
Answered by:
If by "Home Insurance Partner" you mean an insurance carrier that offers homeowners insurance, I can answer that from my 42 years off experience here. If the homeowners insurance product is equal to or better than most of the competition (coverage), then I look for these issues in the order in which I present them:
1) Rates. If we don't have competitive rates to offer, we aren't going to sell the product and nothing else matters after that.
2) Compensation. I don't appreciate it when carriers offer low commissions or stingy (or no) profit sharing. If we produce a good book of business for you, pay us for it. Your employees' and executives' salaries have to be competitive for you to attract and retain talent. You should think of us as employees who are compensated on what we produce (as opposed to salaries) and if you want business, pay us fairly for it.
3) Claims service. People buy homeowners insurance so that they can be made whole in the event of a loss. Pay the claims quickly and fairly. If you don't, you have no business in homeowners insurance.
4) Service. Policy and endorsement issuance should be smooth and fast. If everything is automated, it should be simple and easy to use.
