Fr Michael's Mission Inc is a non-profit dedicated to serving the poor, low income, elderly, persons with disabilities and struggling families throughout Southern Prnce George's, Charles and St Mary Counties. In addition, we now serve part of Calvert County. We partner with 107 churches of various Faiths, Nondenominations and also non-profit organizations. In 2022 we in partnership with many other organizations distributed over 100 tons of foods, proper seasonal clothing, personal care items, and with temporary or emergency housing.
When I was first assigned to S. Md I had no idea about the poverty here and the very limited resources available to properly address the ongoing rising needs. As a Catholic priest whom in the past personally experienced hunger, near homelessness and inadequate seasonal clothing, I personally was sustained in my toughest years by the generosity of strangers, supportive and helpful people and even by homeless people. I learned very quickly that if a poor person has only enough peanut butter to make one sandwich he or she will be the first to either share it or give that whole sandwich away in order to feed another hungry person. We are a very blessed society. This time period in America is a wake up call to remind us that whatever possessions we have will not be going with us into the next life. What I learned over the years is, "When I look into the eyes of a poor person I am looking into the eyes of the image and likeness of the Poor Christ". So I ask myself, What would Christ do?
