Heather, if your business is like mine, it's very geographically specific. So, you have to target your marketing to the audience you want to work with...specifically, door hangers to canvas those neighborhoods where your clients are...it's worked well for me.
However, what's worked even better is the referral network I've built with the local Veterinarian staff, groomers (mobile and storefront) and kennels. There's nothing better than having my favorite Veterinarian clinics call me to say "we need more of your business cards, door hangers, pens and magnets...we're out, again!" THAT's the best advertising money can't buy!!!
Finally, I always send thank you cards when I get a referral from someone in my network! I include four more business cards in the thank you note and encourage them to keep sending me business. It's old-school...you have to hand write a note, address and envelope and use a .50 postage stamp, but it works!
