I experienced a flurry of sales right before Covid hit. I've had minimal sales since then but I see and feel a very tentative buying atmosphere right now with only very inexpensive things, in terms of art objects that most may feel frivolous, that are being purchased. I believe 2021 will be better but it's very hard to predict what that really means. It's a time to plan for the future, wait, watch and work on creative projects that might have their day at some point in the next two years.
I tend to be as realistic and practical as possible. That being said I still don't feel like this is a terrible time necessarily as the quiet spaces indoors have been perfect for germinating new ideas. Since the future is too ridiculously hard to know, in my mind, the sky is the limit - you may as well try anything and everything as perhaps the slate may be being wiped clean in a sense.
Hi Bruce - are you listed on Etsy? There is a minimal charge for listing but you get traffic and they make communication easy. It's a reliable site. You could try that website for a while. I believe people sell on Facebook without a fee. And of course there is Ebay which seems to work well but...

I have heard a lot of people say this about social media marketing, whether it's art or anything else--it's a part of the equation. You still need to do all the old fashioned stuff like meeting people at shows and other art events, even paper advertising and other tangible means. With the online presence, you have to be relentless. I am marketed to constantly after I buy one product anywhere--sometimes that's annoying but I think it works more often than not. With the massive competition with all social media, I feel you can never rest. You have to be out there competing all the time in ways that are creative and arresting. There is a whole science to the psychology of imagery and color - a subject in and of itself so how you present your art should be done carefully and with input from artists and non-artists. Generally if you are getting into social media, you should be prepared to update constantly. If your message, imagery, etc. gets old, you won't get much out of it. Just my take on it. Marketing art, at least in the U.S. is like marketing any other product. I wish that wasn't the case but I think that's realistic. Artists are expected to have a website--so that's a given. Beyond that I think FB, Twitter, Instagram, maybe even Pinterest are all pretty much obligatory. Etsy might be useful too but more for craft items--not sure fine art gets much attention there. I think it's a lot of work to stay on top of updating your imagery but sharing work in progress is a good idea. That can be very interesting for artists and non-artists alike. Process really gives your viewers a look inside your brain and can make the work itself richer for a buyer.
