Lately I wish I had understood the value and necessity of marketing. It was never enough to have a good product. about 12 years in I was still consistently hearing, "Your company does what? I've never heard of you. Are you like Company X? I've heard of them." I knew I could sell. when I got in front of a prospect I could get them to bite, but I was never in front of enough prospects to grow effectively or quickly enough until I understood marketing.
