I own two family businesses and I am hiring more and more outside the family. The drama is pathetic. If you don't see the drama changing anytime soon I would suggest looking for another job.  (more) I own two family businesses and I am hiring more and more outside the family. The drama is pathetic. Change what surrounds you. Typically there are four major personality types, thinker, relator, socializer and director. On what I read you are probably a very heavy thinker and once you get to know people are probably a very good socializer. I would suggest that you research companies and careers that match those types of qualities rather than trying to change yourself into one of those careers. People tend to be what they've always been so instead of trying to modify yourself modify what you're looking at.  A a great way to figure out how to get out of the deep shyness is to go to a coffee shop and listen and watch how people interact with each other. Try and figure out their personality types based on what I told you above and see how they interact with people. Look at things like verbal cues facial expressions and so on. One key is try not to stare too much makes people feel odd.
