Unfortunately they will use the most recent filed return.  If he has filed his 2020 without the child, he will not receive the stimulus.  He should have received the stimulus monies that were distributed in 2020 ($500 around April 2020 and $600 around December2020.).  The 2021 will not be sent to him if he or the mother have filed their 2020 tax return.
