(more) I think the answer depends upon your individual situation. With lower rates, the increase in the standard deduction and the loss of personal exemptions, each of these cause different outcomes on your tax return.  If you are single, the lower rates and increase in the standard deduction will probably lower your tax bill. If you are married filing jointly with your spouse, you have two or three kids, the increase in the standard deduction will not offset the loss of the personal exemptions, you may find this years taxable income to be higher than in 2017. THis is when the lower rates and the expanded child credits kick in to help keep your tax bill down, offsetting any tax increase that comes with the higher taxable income. So, there are two simple examples of what may happen. Remember to watch your withholding, which is also dropping, to keep the year end surprises to a minimum

Plan B would be to search for an Enrolled Agent or a CPA, either via Internet or a local business directory. The Turbo Tax option is better, simply because you may not get a tax professional to do your return this later in the cycle. Turbo Tax is simple, the instructions are as logical as they can get and even if you prepare the most accurate return possible, at this late date, you can always amend it afterwards. The key is to file by the due date. If you have a balance due, pay it...penalties result for late filing and late payment
