Good Morning Frustrated Hard Worker, I also feel very similar to Abel & Sofi as I’ve been in a very similar situation. I was only 22 at the time, however I was past up for promotions and opportunities for more responsibilities for family members and friends of the business owners. The grandfather that ran the company would hear a sob story about a relative that was terminated from a position, most likely rightfully so, from their positions and he would “make room” for them within the company. Families are going to side with family, just as they will side with a friend over a co worker or standard employee regardless of talent or positive work results. Without the support of a 3rd party HR department that will operate on a code of ethics you’re in a very tough position to have any leg to stand on when faced with a problem that involves a friend or family member of the company. Build your resume, get recommendations from clients you currently work with and professionals that you’re friends with for references to find a career that offers a fair and balanced work environment.
